The authors present data on complex formation by the UO/sub 2//sup 2 +/ ion with certain aminopolycarboxylic acids containing a differing number of reactive groups, viz., iminodiacetic (IDA), nitrilotriacetic (NTA), and diethylenetriaminepentaacetic (DTPA) acids. Recordings of the absorption spectra and their second derivatives characteristic of the uranyl aqua ion and solutions of its compounds with IDA and DTPA are presented. In the last case, a significant improvement is observed in the resolution of the spectrum into its component parts, which provides the possibility of separating the series of bands of the electronic-vibrational levels into the magnetic and fluorescent series.
