R -matrix calculations for electron-impact excitation of C sup + , N sup 2+ , and O sup 3+ including fine structure
- Joint Institute for Laboratory Astrophysics, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO (USA)
Close-coupling calculations are carried out using the {ital R}-matrix method for the excitation of a number of states of boronlike carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen by electron impact. The ten lowest {ital LS} states of C{sup +} and the eight lowest states of N{sup 2+} and O{sup 3+} are considered in the eigenfunction expansions. Including fine structure the collision strengths are calculated for all transitions among the states 2{ital s}{sup 2}2{ital p}({sup 2}P{sub 1/2,3/2}{sup {ital o}}), 2{ital s}2p{sup 2}({sup 4}P{sub 1/2,3/2,5/2},{sup 2}{ital D}{sub 3/2,5/2},{sup 2}{ital S} {sub 1/2},{sup 2}P{sub 1/2,3/2}), 2{ital p}{sup 3}({sup 4}S{sub 3/2}{sup o},{sup 2}D{sub 3}{sub 2},5/2{sup {ital o}},{sup 2}P{sub 1/2},{sub 32}{sup o}), 2{ital s}{sup 2}3s({sup 2}S{sub 1/2}), and 2{ital s}{sup 2}3p({sup 2}P{sub 1/2,3/2}{sup {ital o}}) for C{sup +} and among all states of N{sup 2+} and O{sup 3+} excluding the {ital n}=3 configurations. Resonance structures in the collision strengths are delineated at a large number of energies and are found to have a substantial effect. A number of selected results are presented, in particular for the fine-structure transition {sup 2}P{sub 1/2}{sup o}-{sup 2}P{sub 3/2}{sup o} and the resonance transition {sup 2}P{sup o}-{sup 2}D in all three ions.
