New pressure transient analysis model for dual-porosity reservoirs

Conference ·
OSTI ID:7160295
This paper presents a new analytical model for interpreting pressure transient tests for wells producing from dual-porosity reservoirs. This model includes unsteady-state matrix flow and incorporates the effects of wellbore storage and skin. The model is applicable to bounded as well as infinite-acting reservoirs. The full characteristic pressure transient behavior of a finite dual-porosity reservoir can be divided into five regimes. The first regime is dominated by wellbore storage and is followed by a fracture-dominated regime. Following these are a transition flow regime, a homogeneous flow regime and finally boundary effects. To date, no published model includes all these effects with unsteady-state matrix flow. This paper shows that field buildup test data can posses all these characteristics and that a model with all the features of the new model is required to analyze the entire test uniquely.
