In the reaction of trans-benzene dioxide with one mole of amines the nucleophile adds on the side of the double bond, and trans-2-amino-trans-5,6-epoxy-3-cyclo-hexenols are formed. The opening of the second oxirane ring by amines or by methanol leads to the formation of trans-1,3;6-3,6-diamino-4-cyclohexene-1,2-diols and trans-1,3;2,6-3-amino-6-methoxy-4-cyclohexene-1,2-diols respectively. The PMR spectra were recorded and calculated on a Bruker WM-360 instrument at 360 MHz in deuterochloroform with TMS as internal standard.
