Anisotropic light-scattering investigation of the structure of dilute magnetic liquids

The authors use light scattering from a helium-neon laser to assess the aggregate stability and anisotropic structure of magnetic liquids undergoing dilution by organic solvents and surfactants in the case of a suspension of magnetite particles in kerosene with added oleic acid in the presence of an external magnetic field induced by a Helmholtz coil. The dependence of scattering and structure anisotropy on the concentration and surface tension behavior of the magnetic liquid constituents is also determined.
