The projected date for the first oil to move from Prudhoe Bay field into Pump Station 1 of the trans-Alaska pipeline is July 1, 1977. If test runs are successful along the 801.3-mile pipeline, oil will start emerging at the Valdez terminal and into tankers bound for California 45 days later. The complex pipeline could begin operation 4 months early if all pieces of equipment arrive on schedule, if the weather is perfect, and if there are no labor problems. A present concern is the Federal and state inspection of some questionable welds on the line. A firsthand check along the line is summarized. (MCW)
