Tar sands due in situ recovery tests

As much as $250 million could be spent on tar sand and heavy oil in-situ recovery for five projects in the Cold Lake, Athabasca, and Peace River deposits to unlock 250 billion bbls of oil from tar sands. Industry will finance one-half the project and the provincial Oil Sands Technology and Research Authority will provide the other half. The provincial agency will own all patent rights on technology developed by the joint ventures of industry partners--Shell Canada Ltd., Amoco Canada Petroleum Co. Ltd., BP Canada Ltd., Numac Oil and Gas Ltd., and In-Situ Research and Engineering Ltd. (MCW)
