This patent describes a resiliently loaded top end support for each of plural rod guides disposed in closely spaced, parallel axial relationship within the inner barrel assembly of a pressurized water reactor vessel. The inner barrel assembly occupying a central portion of the vessel and being of a vertical height extending from a first plate of lower elevation to the second plate of higher elevation within the vessel. The second plate being moveable axially into and out of assembled relationship with the inner barrel assembly. Each the rod guides having a thin sidewall portion of elongated configuration and being of an axial length corresponding substantially to the vertical height of the inner barrel assembly and being mounted at the lower end thereof to the first plate and accommodating in axial, sliding relationship therewithin plural, respectively associated rod clusters.
