Distributed Artificial Intelligence is the subfield of Artificial Intelligence concerned with the creation of intelligent problem solving systems which are based on observtions of cooperative systems in our lives. This group problem solving approach promises a number of advantages over current sequentially based problem solvers. This paper presents an overview of the research issues which concern Distributed Artificial Intelligence and focuses on the design of such systems.
