Control valve system for a four-speed automatic power transmission transaxle
This patent describes a control system for an automatic transmission for an automotive vehicle. The transmission has a torque input shaft, a torque output shaft, a hydrokinetic torque converter with an impeller connected to the torque input shaft and a turbine, and multiple ratio gearing having an input element connected to the turbine and an output element connected to the output shaft; first clutch and brake means for controlling the relative motion of the elements of the gearing to establish and disestablish ratio changes between a fourth speed ratio and a third speed ratio; second clutch and brake means for controlling the relative motion of the elements of the gearing to establish and disestablish ratio changes between a second speed ratio and the third speed ratio; third clutch and brake means for controlling the relative motion of the elements of the gearing to establish and disestablish ratio changes between a first speed ratio and the second speed ratio; fluid pressure actuators for each of the clutch and brake means; a fluid pressure pump; and conduit structure connecting the pump and the actuators including a 1-2 shift valve means for controlling selectively distribution of actuating pressure to the actuator for the third clutch and brake means, a 2-3 shift valve means for controlling selectively distribution of actuating pressure to the actuator for the second clutch and brake means, and a 3-4 shift valve means for controlling selectively distribution of actuating pressure to the actuator for the first clutch and brake means.
