Th(NO/sub 3/)/sub 4/.5H/sub 2/O(c) was prepared in high purity and its enthalpy of solution was measured in 0.01 M HClO/sub 4/ at 15, 25, and 35/sup 0/C, using a calorimeter sensitive to 5 x 10/sup -6/K. These measurements are combined with recent literature data to derive anti S/sup 0/(Th/sup 4 +/, aq) = -424 +- 4 J mol/sup -1/ K/sup -1/, anti C/sup 0//sub p2/(Th/sup 4 +/, aq) = -1 +- 11 J mol/sup -1/ K/sup -1/, and ..delta..H/sup 0//sub f/(Th(NO/sub 3/)/sub 4/.5H/sub 2/O, c) = -3009 +- 4 kJ mol/sup -1/ at 298.15/sup 0/K. Anti S/sup 0/ and anti C/sup 0//sub p2/ are interpreted by comparison with other monatomic ions, using appropriate semiempirical equations.
