A self-actuated device, of particular use as a valve or an orifice for nuclear reactor fuel and blanket assemblies, in which a gas produced by a neutron induced nuclear reaction gradually accumulates as a function of neutron fluence is disclosed. The gas pressure increase occasioned by such accumulation of gas is used to actuate the device. 1 fig.
