Fredholm equations and Green's functions

Journal Article · · Transp. Theory Stat. Phys.; (United States)

When the kernel of a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind is a Green's function (which is the case in a wide variety of physical problems), the process of solution can be significantly simplified by exploiting the general properties of the Green's function. In particular, the solution of the Fredholm equation can be obtained from the solution of the corresponding Volterra equation.
