Muliple seam mining in Alabama

Journal Article · · Min. Congr. J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:7154850
Techniques developed in the surface mining of three thin seams (12 in. to about 24 in.) at considerable depth (100 to 200 feet) are described. Part of the overburden on a new bench is moved into the old cut by blasting. The major part of the operation is carried out with a 40 cu yd dragline (with a 285 ft boom) operating on the new bench at first and then on the new spoil on a road constructed with a front end loader and bulldozer.
