Hydraulic rigs allow for live well workovers

Advanced technology and increased knowledge of hydraulic workover rigs are responsible for an upsurge in the oil industry's acceptance of these rigs. Technical advertising and advanced training programs share responsibility for increases in applications. The main feature of the hydraulic workover rig is its ability to snub tubing into the hole - force it into the well when pressure under the stripping rubber is greater than tubing weight. Working over a live well rather than killing it eliminates fluid cost, reduces pumping equipment cost, and reduces risk of formation damage from weighted mud. Hydraulic workover rigs advantages are discussed.
