Outline of the CRBRP Reactor Instrumentation System

The paper outlines the design of the principal reactor instrumentation systems associated with the Clinch River Breeder Reactor. In the case of the systems external to the vessel, the design is largely conventional and relies heavily on experience arising from the design of the Fast Flux Test Facility (FFTF). In the case of the In-Vessel systems, the design process was the vehicle for an active debate as to the cost-benefit to be obtained from in-vessel instruments. A brief account is presented of the resulting conclusions about the importance and function of the in-vessel instrumentation in a commercial LMFBR.
