Multiple site olefin polymerization catalysts
This patent describes a solid catalyst component active in combination with a suitable cocatalyst and, optionally, a modifier in polymerizing l-olefins, prepared by the method. It comprises: directly contacting particles of a solid support material with a zirconium compound or complex under conditions; contacting the contact product with a Lewis acid when the zirconium compound or complex is of the formula Zr(OR)[sub a]X[sub 4][minus]a [center dot] (R[sup 1]OH)[sub x] and, optionally, with an alkylating agent to produce an intermediate product; optionally isolating and washing the contact product or the intermediate product to remove soluble reaction by-products therefrom to produce a washed product; and, reacting the contact product, the intermediate product or the washed product with a compound of titanium or vanadium to produce a solid catalyst component.
