Microscopic study of doorway states in the giant resonance region of /sup 16/O. [24 to 40 MeV; cross sections, form factors, DW approximation]

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)
Inelastic proton scattering to the nonnormal-parity 2/sup -/ (8.88 MeV) state in /sup 16/O has been used as a means to study the applicability of the random-phase-approximation wave functions for the description of doorway states in the giant resonance region. The transition amplitudes are evaluated in a distorted-wave-approximation. The reaction mechanism is described in terms of a direct and a semidirect process, the latter involving the doorway states. The results of this investigation comprise the microscopic radial transition form factors and a differential cross section analysis for proton energies ranging from 24 to 40 MeV. (AIP)
