Photoabsorption cross-section measurement of Ar/sub 2/F excimer at 248 nm

Journal Article · · J. Opt. Soc. Am. B: Opt. Phys.; (United States)
The photoabsorption cross section of the Ar/sub 2/F excimer in the lowest excited state (4/sup 2/GAMMA), which is produced by exciting an ArF/sub 2/ gas mix by a short-pulse relativistic electron beam, has been determined at 248 nm to be (3.3 +- 1) x 10/sup -18/ cm/sup 2/ by observing the depletion of Ar/sub 2/F fluorescence induced by the irradiation of a short-pulse KrF laser beam. Observation of ArF fluorescence shows that the Ar/sub 2/F excimer is directly dissociated into ArF and Ar by absorbing a 248-nm photon.
