Saline and sodic spoils: what are they and how are they reclaimed

Saline spoils (or soils) contain excessive amounts of water-soluble salts. Sodic spoils (or soils) contain excessive amounts of sodium, which impart undesirable physical characteristics to the spoils. Saline spoils and sodic spoils can be detrimental to revegetation efforts. However, with proper management, reclamation is possible without incurring high costs. When spoils surfaces are saline or sodic, it is suggested that expert help be obtained. Experts can make detailed recommendations suited to particular situations.
