Progress in US ERDA's research and development programs in fluidized-bed combustion is reported. This involves the 30 MW atmospheric pressure, fluidized-bed boiler at Rivesville, Va. (which is almost ready to operate), pressurized fluidized-bed combustion experiments in pilot plants and MIUS (ORNL's modular integrated utility system). Other work in this program involves combustion of coal-oil slurries, combustion of solvent-refined coal, combustion of anthracite wastes (by fluidized combustion), high temperature dust control, applications of fluidized-bed combustion to industrial boilers and supporting planning, technical and engineering services.
