Determination of reaction enthalpy in the ion-exchange of chlorine isotopes

Isotope exchange equilibrium of chloride ions according to equation below has now been characterized thermodynamically. A knowledge of thermodynamic data is an important requirement for developing chromatographic processes intended for chemical pre-enrichment of chlorine isotopes. /sup 37/Cl(H/sub 2/O)/sub x//sup -/R/sup +/ + /sup 35/Cl(H/sub 2/O)/sub y//sup -/ in equilibrium /sup 37/Cl(H/sub 2/O)/sub y//sup -/ + /sup 35/Cl(H/sub 2/O)/sub x//sup -/R/sup +/, where R/sup +/ = quaternary ammonium group of the anion exchanger.
