Lock-up control system for a torque converter for an automatic transmission

Patent ·
OSTI ID:7142385

A torque converter lock-up control system is described for an automatic transmission. The system comprises a torque converter having input and output shafts, the input shaft being connected to an output shaft of an engine; a multiple stage transmission gear mechanism connected to the output shaft of the torque converter; and a lock-up means adapted to be selectively engaged and disengaged to change the power transmission path between the input and output shafts of the torque converter. The lock-up means is adapted to directly connect the input and output shafts of the torque converter when engaged. The system also includes a lock-up driving means for controlling the lock-up means; a rotational speed sensor for detecting the rotational speed related to one of the input and output shafts of the torque converter and generating a rotational speed signal; and an engine load sensor for detecting engine load and generating an engine load signal.
