Applications of proton radiation to medical problems. Progress report 1 Jul-30 Sep 1973

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7141480
In the reporting period a 30 cm dual ion chamber was completed, proton radiographs of a tumor in a brain specimen inside a skull were made and a 'proton nozzle' for a 30 cm diameter flat field was constructed. Other efforts included the calculation of range modulation programs, measurements of In Phantom dose, and comparison of tissue densities and linear stopping-power, using fresh human tissue specimens. Experiments on monkeys to determine the response of eye tissues to proton radiation were conducted and survival curves of irradiated Hc-La cells were measured. Eight patients were treated at the cyclotron lab. (GRA)
