The design of a single-stage, direct energy converter on a reactor using advanced fuel involves an optimization over a number of geometric variables. A model has been devised for the purpose of carrying out this optimization, and a graph of an optimized converter performance at several mean energies and power levels is presented. A design for the electrically insulated supporting arm of a multistage direct converter is also included.
