Solar energy for space heating with heat pump

A significant part of residential heating requirements can be met by a solar-assisted heat pump system. A transient analysis is presented of the heating load and system performance for a hypothetical characteristic house in a climate where winters are severe and the insolation limited. Detailed 3-hr weather data and hourly insolation for one heating season were used. (WDM)
