Standard method of test for absorbed gamma and electron radiation dose with the ceric sulfate dosimeter

The preparation and use of a ceric sulfate dosimeter for accurate measurement of the absorbed dose in water irradiated with x or ..gamma.. rays or high-energy electrons are described. The ionizing radiation reduces the ceric to cerous ions, and the ceric ion concentration is measured spectrophotometrically. The method is accurate for absorbed doses in the range from 1 x 10/sup 6/ to 8 x 10/sup 6/ rd. The precision of the method is +-1 percent, and the accuracy is +-3 percent. (BLM)
