Patent ·
OSTI ID:7133276
A process is described for removing hydrogen sulfide from a gas containing hydrogen sulfide mixed with a large amount of carbon dioxide. It comprises the successive steps of contacting the gas with an aqueous solution of ammonium sulfite so as to form ammonium thiosulfate; decomposing the ammonium thiosulfate to sulfur, ammonia, sulfur dioxide, and water; and recovering the sulfur and recycling the ammonia, sulfur dioxide, and water to the contact zone in order to regenerate the ammonium sulfite solution.
