Measurement and tentative analysis of resonant scattering features of He on the strongly corrugated Pt(110)-(1 times 2) surface
- Fachbereich Physik, Freie Universitaet Berlin, Arnimallee 14, D-1000 Berlin 33, West Germany (DE)
Measurements of the intensity of the specular beam as a function of angle of incidence for He diffraction from the missing-row reconstructed ( and thus highly corrugated) Pt(110)-(1{times}2) surface were performed with several different He-beam energies. From the angular location of resonant structures four bound-state resonances with binding energies {ital E}{sub {ital i}} ({ital i}=0,1,2,3) of {minus}7.35, {minus}5.0,{minus}3.0, and {minus}1.15 meV (respectively) could be identified. Fitting these values to different analytical potential forms yields a potential-well depth {ital D}=8.7 meV. Depth and shape of the potential are discussed in connection with other hitherto available data of He-interaction potentials with metals.
