Parity-violating nucleon-nucleon interaction in the Bars-Halpern-Yoshimura gauge model. [Tree approximation, polarization]

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., D; (United States)
The parity-violating (PV) nucleon-nucleon interaction at low energy has been investigated in the lowest-order tree approximation in the unified gauge model of Bars, Halpern, and Yoshimura. It is shown explicitly that the one-pion PV exchange force is due to the charge-exchange effect and is quite suppressed compared to that due to one-rho-meson exchange, consistent with the recent experiment. Our result contradicts the claim of Gari and Reid, whose current-algebra calculation appears to be wrong. The additional exchange effect of the contribution of the weak electromagnetic transition rho/sup plus-or-minus/ ..-->.. ..pi../sup plus-or-minus/..gamma.. to the circular polarization in the reaction n + p ..-->.. d + ..gamma.. is also discussed.
