Sol--gel synthesis of fine-particle superconducting oxide, YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7-//sub x/

A sol--gel method of preparing fine-particle superconducting oxide YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7-//sub x/ was developed. Single-phase superconducting oxide YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7-//sub x/ formed at temperatures as low as 750 /sup 0/C. The particle size obtained by this method was found to be less than or equal to0.2 ..mu..m. Pellets sintered from these sol--gel powders exhibited very sharp resistivity drops at T/sub c/ = 90 /sup 0/C with a ..delta..T/sub c/ of approx.3 /sup 0/K.
