Vehicle procurement procedures associated with the testing of automobiles for exhaust emissions via the Federal Test Procedure and other selected short cycles are described. A total of 150 privately-owned 1974 model year vehicles were procured and delivered to the Environmental Protection Agency Motor Vehicle Emissions Laboratory in Ann Arbor, Michigan. These vehicles (Chevrolets with 400 cu in. engines, Plymouths with 318 cu in. engines, and Ford Pintos with 140 cu in. engines) were selected from the registration records for Wayne County, Michigan.
