Internal combustion engine crank case oil vapor condensing means

Patent ·
OSTI ID:7126705
An apparatus for condensing crankcase oil fumes and thus minimizing the amount of oil vapors fed in the air filter of an internal combustion engine is described that reduces engine carbonization problems associated with prior art positive crankcase ventilation systems. A tube that communicates the space below the engine valve cover with the intake manifold is cooled with a condenser so that oil vapors which pass through the tube form oil droplets. The tube is oriented so that the oil droplets drip back through the valve corner, thus minimizing the amount of oil vapor transferred to the air filter housing.
