Delay lines based on magnetostatic volume waves in epitaxial YIG
- Univ. of Edinburgh
This paper describes the realization and operation of a magnetostatic volume wave (MSVW) delay line utilizing an epitaxial YIG film which exhibits useful constant delay characteristics. The delay line comprises a normally magnetized YIG film which is separated from a ground plane by a dielectric layer. Experimental results have been obtained using a 4.5 ..mu..m thick LPE-grown YIG film and a 115 ..mu..m thick glass dielectric layer, with 30 ..mu..m wide and 3 mm long A1 microstrip lines deposited on the latter to form input and output couplers. The device has exhibited, in agreement with theory, a constant delay of about 350 ns over a 200 MHz bandwidth in the 1 GHz to 5 GHz frequency range.
