Brookhaven National Laboratory: Technology transfer report, Fiscal year 1983

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7124150
One of Brookhaven's primary missions has been the construction and operation of large facilities for basic research. The Laboratory has always been cognizant of, and has taken pride in, the transfer of technologies associated with the design, construction, operation or utilization of the facilities; and with the technology developed from all of our basic and applied research programs. Although, in the past, the technology transfer process has not been formalized, the technologies developed here have been continuously diffused into the American economy. Some examples are medical isotopes, most notably technetium-99, and much of the early light water reactor technology based upon BNL's work with its first research reactor and with its critical assembly facility. Now the Laboratory has formalized the process and created an Office of Research and Technology Applications (ORTA).
