Multiple scattering theory with target nucleus antisymmetry

Journal Article · · Am. J. Phys.; (United States)

This article presents a pedagogic introduction to multiple scattering theory. Projectile--nucleus collisions are emphasized, and particular attention is given to the treatment of antisymmetry of the target nucleus wave function. The two standard renditions of multiple scattering by Foldy--Watson and by Kerman--McManus--Thaler differ primarily in the stage at which target nucleus antisymmetry is introduced and in the properties of the Hilbert space in which intermediate quantities are evaluated.
