This paper reports that four-point-bend testing at 1300[degrees] C caused pure Y-PSZ (Y[sub 2]O[sub 3] partially stabilized zirconia), high room temperature strength (1090 [plus minus] 100 MPa) samples to soften and touch the lower fixture at a stress of 63 [plus minus] 10 MPa. Addition of 5 vol% [gamma]Al[sub 2]O[sub 3] resulted in an increased bend strength to 170 [plus minus] 7 MPa at 1300[degrees] C. The bend strength of HIPed Y-PSZ/5 vol% [gamma]Al[sub 2]O[sub 3]/15 vol% Na[beta]Al[sub 2]O[sub 3] composites with Na[beta]Al[sub 2]O[sub 3] median particle size of 15 [mu]m was 188 [plus minus] 10 MPa at 1230[degrees] C.
