Search for geothermal seismic noise in the East Mesa area, Inperial Valley, California

A seismic noise monitoring study was conducted at the East Mesa area of Imperial Valley, Calif. to determine if there is a correlation between seismic noise levels and thermal gradients and high heat flow regions at East Mesa. The measuring methods and data obtained are described. It was concluded that the seismic noise detected over the Mesa thermal anomaly is caused by freeway traffic and canal and agricultural activities, and that, if there is any geothermal noise generated, its amplitude is less than that of the other sources, and probably is one or two magnitudes less than the noise levels generated at the Geysers Geothermal Field.
