Lead--acid battery separators can be made from nonwoven mats of treated polypropylene resin which contain an internal surfactant which is soluble in the molten polymer but not in the cooled polymer. Heating and compression are used to increase the effectiveness of the above surfactant in conjunction with another one coated on the surface. (RWR)
