Photometric determination of > 0. 1% yttrium in chromium--yttrium alloys (exchange of experience)

A photometric method is described for the determination of Y in Cr--Y alloys using arsenazo I. Yttrium is precipitated from a solution of the alloy as Y(OH)/sub 3/ and redissolved for complex formation. The optical density of the complex is measured at 580nm. The method is applicable to the determination of 5 to 25..mu..g of Y in a final 25-ml solution. Interferences of Fe and Zr are masked using sulfosalicylic acid and phenylarsonic acid. The relative standard error of the results using this method is +-7%. (BLM)
