Further measurements by velocity analysis of differential cross sections for the elastic and inelastic scattering of CsI by Ar and Xe are reported at relative translational energies E in the ranges 4--12 and 6--17 kJ mol/sup -1/, respectively. Measurements without velocity analysis for CsI+Ar extend the range to E=117 kJ mol/sup -1/. These results for in-plane scattering permit estimates for the total cross sections integrated over the scattering angles for energy exchange by specific amounts ..delta..E between the internal energy of CsI and the relative translational energy. Both excitation and deexcitation of CsI occur with differential cross sections comparable to or larger than those for elastic scattering except at scattering angles near zero. CsI colliding with Ar or Xe at small impact parameters appears to exchange energy statistically between all the degrees of freedom available.
