Title: Energy Technology Engineering Center (ETEC). Annual technical progress report, January-December 1984

Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/711946· OSTI ID:711946

The ETEC complex contains several multipurpose test facilities, including some of the world`s largest circulating sodium loops. These facilities are maintained and operated in support of DOE`s Liquid Metal Fast Breeder Reactor (LMFBR) Program. ETEC has a unique capability for testing models and full-size components in sodium under simulated reactor operating conditions. Test programs are described for the natural draft heat exchanger; helical coil steam generator; 3 inch CRBR valves; one-fith scale dye test for LMFBR pumps; the flex check valve for the auxiliary cooling system; the containment purge valve; ORNL creep ratchetting; steam generator leak dynamics; natural circulation; fuel handling mock-up; NRC valve performance test program; stress indices tee; elastic follow-up tests for pipe joints; test of annular linear induction pump for the Single-Pin Test Loop; sodium flow measurements; sodium pressure measurements; strain measurements; sodium level measurements; electrical resistance heaters; fragility testing; in-service inspection; and mineral-insulated cable heater test.
