The new Superconducting Storage device (SSD), stores enough electrical energy to provide megawatts of ride-through power during voltage sags and momentary power losses lasting several seconds. The SSD'd features and capabilities make it the first attractive means of successfully combating the costly problem of voltage sags and momentary outages for large industrial loads. This paper is written to acquaint the reader with the SSD, describe how it works and review its performance.
