Centrifugal fluidized combustion of coal. Quarterly report, September--December 1976

Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/7109116· OSTI ID:7109116
A small laboratory model of a centrifugal fluidized bed combustor was fabricated and preliminary batch experiments on bed startup and fluidization were performed at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. Experiments with cylindrical and conical distributors indicate it is difficult to start the bed from a slumped stationary position unless the distributor is tapered. The relation between bed pressure drop and air flow rate is qualitatively similar to that of a conventional fluidized bed, with apparent values for epsilon/sub mf/ in the range 0.40 to 0.45.
