A review of the experimental situation regarding the electric and magnetic polarizabilities of the proton is presented. The polarizabilities extracted from an analysis of two recent experiments are: {bar {alpha}} = (10.8{plus minus}1.0{plus minus}1.0)x10{sup bar}4 fm {sup 3} and {bar {alpha}}=(3.4{minus plus}1.0{minus plus}1. 0) x 10{sup 4} fm{sup 3}.
