Hydrodesulfurization of asphaltene-containing black oil with a gamma-alumina composite catalyst of specified particle density

Patent ·
OSTI ID:7105903
A process is claimed for the catalytic hydrodesulfurization of an asphaltene-containing hydrocarbonaceous charge stock in which said charge stock and hydrogen are reacted with a sulfided catalytic particle composite of alumina having combined therewith a metal from Group VI-B and a metal from Group VIII in a reaction zone, the improvement which comprises said catalytic composite particle having a density of from about 1.05 to about 1.24 g/cm/sup 3/, wherein the alumina support of said catalyst is gamma-alumina which has an average pore diameter of about 20 to about 300 Angstroms, a pore volume of about 0.1 to about 1 ml/g, and a surface area of about 100 to about 500 m/sup 2//g.
