Title: Interactive CRT operator consoles and hierarchical refinery operation and control systems. (CC-74-84)

Conference ·
OSTI ID:7102798

Interactive graphic CRT (cathode ray tube) consoles with color or monochrome displays and light pens provide a versatile, reliable, and cost-effective means for interfacing process operators with the end-elements in a refinery data acquisition and control system. Programmable remote stations also provide a versatile, reliable, and cost-effective means for stand-alone remote monitoring and control of process input/output signals. Integration of these subsystems into a hierarchical plant information and control system can result in significant reductions in equipment and field wiring costs and operating costs. This paper presents philosophy, design concepts, typical configurations, and techniques which have evolved from the author's experiences in designing and implementing industrial plant information and control systems based on interactive graphic CRT consoles and hierarchical systems over the past ten years.
