Studies and research concerning BNFP: leached hull monitor
A nondestructive method for assaying the leached reactor fuel cladding hulls has been studied at BNFP. The technique of segmented gamma scanning has been used to determine the quantity of fission product Ce-144 remaining with the hulls after dissolution of the fuel in a reprocessing plant. The dissolver solution is measured for uranium and Ce-144 content and the quantity of undissolved fuel remaining with the hulls computed. A calibration basket containing radioactive sources and Zircaloy hulls is used to simulate run conditions. 12 figures, 7 tables.
