Electron excitation rate coefficients for transitions from the 1s/sup 1/ /sup 1/S ground state to the 1s2s /sup 1. 3/S and and 1s2p /sup 1. 3/P/sup 0/ excited states of helium

The available experimental and theoretical electron impact excitation cross section data for the transitions from the 1s/sup 2/ /sup 1/S ground state to the 1s2s /sup 1.3/S and 1s2p /sup 1.3/P/sup 0/ excited states of helium are assessed. Based on this assessed tata, excitaion rate coefficients are calculated over a wide electron temperature range below 3.0 x 10/sup 6/ K. A comparison with other published results suggests that the rates used should be lower by a factor of 2 or more, especially for the transitions 1 /sup 1/S ..-->.. 2 /sup 1/S and 1 /sup 1/S ..-->.. 2 /sup 3/P/sup 0/.
