Polarized deep inelastic electron proton scattering

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:7098200
Cross section asymmetries in the deep-inelastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons by longitudinally polarized protons have been measured at a scattering angle of 10/sup 0/ and for incident energies of 22.6 GeV and 16.2 GeV. The data obtained cover the kinematic range of 0.2 < x < 0.64 with values if Q/sup 2/ = 5.3 - 10.0 and 3.3 - 5.7 (GeV/c)/sup 2/, respectively, significantly extending thereby the kinematic range of available data. The resulting asymmetries: 1) are consistent with scaling; 2) support models of nucleon spin substructure for which A = 1 for x ..-->.. 1; and 3) are consistent with the Bjorken sum rule.
